The 3-1-1 Rule Of Liquids For Carry-On
Since our last newsletter, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has refined the rules for carrying liquids
onto planes, as we had expected. Liquids and gels are now allowed in containers of three ounces or less. All
of your liquid containers must fit within one quart-sized bag. And only one bag of liquids is allowed per person.
That’s the 3-1-1 rule the TSA wants everyone to remember when packing a carry-on bag for a trip. The one quart bag
should be clear plastic for easy visual inspection by security agents and expect to have to pull the bag out of your
carry-on bag and place it in a security bin for x-raying at the security checkpoints.

Reminder About New Passport Regulations
If you don’t have a passport yet and want to do any traveling in the future, you will need to get one. Starting
January of 2007, new passport rules go into effect and a valid U.S. passport will now be required for any citizen to
re-enter the United States by plane from any other country, even when flying back from Canada or Mexico. This year,
all those spring breakers flying to Mexico will need a passport. In January 2008, you will even need a passport
when walking or driving across the Canadian and Mexican borders. These new regulations will most likely generate a
large number of new passport applications, and delays in passport processing could increase. So, apply for yours
well before your next trip. Better yet, apply now and be ready for any travel opportunity that comes along!

Coast-To-Coast Bicycle Ride Across Europe
May 2006,
Stan Havlick and friends dipped their back bicycle wheels into the North Sea on the NW coast of the
Netherlands. Two months and 3,000 miles later they dipped their front wheels in the Volga River adjoining the
Caspian Sea. They rode through rural regions of the Netherlands, Germany, and Poland. They continued through
the Ukraine into the remote area of Russia where they finished their journey. This journey was the completion of a
14 year quest to cycle coast-to-coast across all the six bikeable continents of the world. Join Stan as he shares
tales and photos of this extraordinary adventure and unique cultural experience. Stan's travels are a fundraiser
for the Colorado Cancer Foundation and a donation to fight cancer would be appreciated.

Suggested Reading
“The Alchemist”, by Paulo Coelho, 1988, published by Harper Collins. As a travel newsletter, we
usually suggest non-fiction reading, but this wonderful book is worth a recommendation. It is the magical story of
Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who travels in search of a worldly treasure. From his home in Spain, he
journeys to the markets of Tangiers and across the Egyptian desert to a life-changing encounter with the alchemist.
The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as few stories have done, about the essential wisdom
of listening to our hearts, learning to read the signs strewn along life’s path, and, above all, following our dreams.
Just For Fun
I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area. So I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman
there that my bags never showed up.
She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands. "Now," she
asked me, "has your plane arrived yet?"...
