WINTER '10 Travel Programs

All travel programs begin at 7:00 P.M. (unless noted otherwise)

Tuesday, March 2nd - EXHILARATING ICELAND - Learn why Iceland has been named a top destination for 2010 by Lonely Planet and USA Today!  The small, beautiful Mid-Atlantic island has more to offer than you may think.  It's lush green valleys, geothermal hot pools, roaring rivers and slow-moving glaciers make it a fantastic playground for adventure travelers.  There are excellent opportunities for bird-watching and Viking museums for historians to ponder.  Plus, with the U.S. dollar strong against the Icelandic Krona, now is the perfect time to visit.  We'll explore the vibrant capital city of Reykjavik, easily walkable and culturally rich, before heading inland to witness the country's many natural wonders: gushing geysers, magical Northern Lights and the awe-inspiring Gullfoss, Iceland's most famous waterfall.

Tuesday, March 9th - CHARMING SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Hey Y'all!  Travel down South with Cindy & Jimbo to the southern coastal gem of Savannah, Georgia.  As one of America's oldest cities, Savannah is rich with history, beautiful antebellum architecture and picturesque squares.  Yet, Savannah has a different side, too: one better known for its eccentric art culture and quirky characters straight out of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".  Savannah's vibrant, buzzing atmosphere makes it a fun place to visit right in our own country and its location on the Savannah River, just 18 miles from the Atlantic Coast keeps active travelers busy with outdoor options.  Oh, and did we mention the food?  Savannah is becoming just as famous for its delicious, hearty low-country cookin' as its long history!

Tuesday, March 16th - DESTINATION: COLORFUL PANAMA - Travel to colorful Panama with Jack and Lynne Rummel!  Enjoy the laidback, Caribbean style of the archipelago of Bocas del Toro, share a traditional meal in an Embera tribal community and traverse the famous Canal in a 24-passenger catamaran.&nsbp; We will also explore the colonial heritage of Panama City, visit a school in a village too small to be on any map and swim under a privately-owned waterfall.  Yes, Panama is a canal but it is so much more!  Join us tonight as we explore this fascinating country.

Tuesday, March 23rd - ARARAT, TURKEY & BEYOND - Join us for an exciting exploration of eastern Anatolia's exotic splendors!  Beginning in Istanbul, we'll wander through the world famous Aya Sofia before venturing to the colorful and bustling bazaars.  In Dogubayazit, we'll see the spectacular Ishak Pasha Palace.  We'll also enjoy the magnificent views from the legendary volcano, Mount Ararat, which is visible from four countries and explore Noah's Ark National Park, where many believe the ark came to rest.  Tonight, we will also enjoy the views from 10,006-ft Nemrut Dagi and 13,315-ft Mount Suphan, Turkey's third highest peak.

Tuesday, March 30th - TIPS ON TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY - Do you come back from an exciting trip and find that you have boring photos?  Do your blue skies come out white, or your green forests look like black sludge?  Maybe we can help.  Join Charlie Anderson, enthusiastic traveler and amateur photographer, for an evening of informative tips to improve your photography.  He'll cover camera gear, camera adjustments, lighting, composition, and subject matter.  And, of course, we will see lots of exquisite pictures from his numerous adventures.

Tuesday, April 13th - HIKING THE CANADIAN WEST COAST TRAIL - The West Coast Trail in British Columbia's Vancouver Island, a 54-mile trail through pristine Canadian wilderness, repeatedly receives top honors from both outdoor-related Web sites and visitors alike.  The WCT is often considered a "rite of passage" in Canada much the same way the fourteeners are for Colorado hiking enthusiasts.  Local hikers, Cheryl Appell and Ralph Stewart, will share their experience along the WCT, covering preparation tips, packing ideas and other logistical information, as well as contrasts with Rocky Mountain hiking.  You might just add the West Coast Obstacle Course (a.k.a. The "Wet" Coast Trail) to your list of adventures after this exciting presentation!
