CIL, the international growth strategy consulting firm, has provided pro bono support to Chelsea Pensioners so that it can support elderly veterans beyond the walls of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea with a new regional outreach service.

CIL undertakes pro bono work as part of its ESG strategy and B Corp certification to ensure that its impact is positive, sustainable, and supportive of the communities where it operates.

CIL developed a research methodology and framework to support the charity in targeting its efforts where it is needed most in relation to loneliness and isolation among older veterans. This included identifying areas that are most attractive to veterans, where there’s a high number of elderly veterans, and where existing support already exists.

The work also included a deep-dive assessment of the existing support for older veterans in the Southeast of England and identified third-party organizations that provide assistance so the charity can begin an active program of engagement with them.

Giles Woodhouse, Director of Chelsea Pensioners Outreach, said: “The support from the team at CIL Strategy Consultants has been timely and invaluable in helping the Royal Hospital Chelsea develop a data-informed approach to our new regional Outreach service for the older veteran community in the Southeast of England, allowing us to target our efforts where it is most needed. We will be more confident in our approach based on the outputs of this research, which we would not have been able to manage ourselves.

“Additionally, the development and sharing of a methodology and tools will allow us to conduct in-depth ‘market’ analyses of future regions we wish to operate in. It has been a pleasure collaborating with and learning from the team during the project, and we sincerely hope to continue the relationship.”

James Silk, Partner and lead of CIL’s Healthcare & Life Sciences practice, commented: “Pro bono work is a core part of CIL’s ESG strategy and reflects our commitment, as a certified B Corporation, to creating positive social impact. Supporting meaningful causes like the Royal Hospital Chelsea allows us to give back to the communities where we live and work, using our expertise to drive real change. This project - focused on expanding their reach to support even more elderly veterans - has been a privilege to be part of. We are immensely proud of the work and, in particular, the close collaboration between our teams. It was incredibly rewarding to apply the same strategic tools and techniques we use with our clients to support the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s important mission.”
