ESG
CIL is a rapidly growing company. While this makes it a dynamic and fascinating workplace, it also means we leave a bigger impression on the environment and society – we are committed to ensuring that this is done in a sustainable manner, that respects the environment and supports the local communities in which we operate.
Led by our environmental, social and governance (ESG) team, CIL aims to consider the effect of our business within wider society. We are committed to contributing meaningfully to the local community through charitable partnerships, fundraising efforts and pro bono work.
“ESG is about building a sustainable future that benefits everyone – from our employees and clients to our planet and society as a whole. By prioritizing ESG, we can create long-term value for our company and make a positive impact on the world.”
Megan Savage Shaw, ESG Lead
Carbon negative status
CIL is carbon-negative, offsetting our carbon emissions by 110%. We continue to look at ways in which we can reduce our operational emissions and achieve net zero. We partner with Seedling to support our reduction initiatives and invest in projects that have a real, permanent impact and display a strong wider social contribution in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals. The projects we support span a broad mix of renewables including solar, wind, hydropower, bioenergy and afforestation.
Missing People
Missing People is a charity we have partnered with since 2015. It is a lifeline for the 250,000 children and adults that go missing each year in the UK, and the loved ones that they leave behind.
In addition to ongoing fundraising activities, we use our commercial strategy expertise to conduct vital research for the charity surrounding the underreported experiences of missing adults. We also provide pro bono support to help Missing People explore new avenues for revenue generation, and evaluate its existing activities to ensure the charity sustains its vital services for the long term.
Firefly International
We have a longstanding relationship with the charity Firefly International. Firefly supports locally-led artistic and educational projects in Bosnia and the Middle East that create safe, supportive and inclusive spaces for young people to grow, learn, and thrive. The charity works closely with children and communities in post conflict areas and is one we have supported since 2009.
My Honey
Over the past 27 years, insect biomass has decreased globally by 75%. The loss of just one bee colony results in the pollination of 450 million fewer flowers.
MyHoney is a charity that aims to increase the bee population in Germany and currently supports over 200 bee colonies there. Since 2021, CIL has sponsored a colony of bees with the amazing team at MyHoney and last year our hive produced over 450 jars of CIL honey!
Chicago Youth Centers
CIL’s Chicago office has provided meal boxes to families in need through Chicago Youth Centres (CYC). CYC is a charity that offers early learning, afterschool, and summer programs, to help children aged between one and 18 years old to find joy in learning, grow socially and build skills for the jobs of tomorrow.
I Grow Chicago
CIL has donated to I Grow Chicago as part of our continued effort to celebrate and support the African American community of Chicago. I Grow Chicago helps to invest in and support the Englewood community through care packages, outreach efforts, online tutoring and donations for household essentials.
